(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, N.Y. – A routine traffic stop in Jamestown resulted in the arrest of a local man for drug possession.
A traffic stop in the vicinity of W. 6th St. and Cherry St. on September 13th ended in the arrest of a Jamestown man on drug charges. At approximately 11:24 p.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s 3rd Platoon pulled over a vehicle for traffic violations. During the stop, police discovered that a passenger, identified as 49-year-old Philip A. Johnson, was carrying 6.7 grams of cocaine hydrochloride.
Johnson was taken into custody without resistance and transported to Jamestown City Jail. He is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th Degree, a felony under New York law. Johnson is currently being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
This arrest marks the latest in a series of drug-related incidents in the area, as local authorities continue to address concerns over narcotics distribution and usage.
The Jamestown Police Department has not released further details regarding the driver or other potential charges at this time.
Johnson’s arraignment is scheduled for later this week, where he will face formal charges.
