(WNY News Now) – Buffalo – An Amherst man could face up to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to charges in connection with a hit-and-run that left a motorcyclist with serious injuries.

Brian J. Perrin, 34, of Amherst, pleaded guilty to first-degree vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an incident resulting in injury in Erie County Court. Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane confirmed the plea, which took place before Judge Kenneth Case. Perrin pleaded guilty to the highest possible charges for the case.

The incident occurred on May 11, 2024, at around 4:22 a.m., when Town of Tonawanda Police responded to a motorcycle accident near Colvin Boulevard and Eggert Road. The motorcyclist, a 36-year-old man, was found unresponsive at the scene and rushed to Erie County Medical Center with serious injuries.

Authorities discovered Perrin’s damaged SUV abandoned in a nearby parking lot. It was determined that he fled the crash site on a bicycle while under the influence of alcohol. Amherst Police located Perrin a short time later near Margaret Road and Charlotte Street, several miles from the accident.

Investigators revealed that Perrin’s SUV struck the motorcyclist while heading south on Colvin Boulevard, causing the collision at the intersection of Eggert Road. Instead of notifying authorities, Perrin moved his vehicle into the parking lot and left the scene.

Perrin is set to be sentenced on January 15, 2025. He faces up to seven years in prison but has been released on his own recognizance until sentencing.

Acting DA Keane praised the efforts of the Town of Tonawanda Police and Amherst Police for their work in the investigation.
