(WNY News Now) – Jamestown, N.Y. – As the sun sets and day creatures retreat, the forest reveals a new world of nocturnal life. Step into the unknown and experience nature after dark on Audubon Community Nature Center’s Night Hike, scheduled for Saturday, September 28, from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Take an opportunity to explore the dark side of nature on Audubon Community Nature Center’s Night Hike, Saturday, September 28, 7:30–9 p.m.

You can listen for owls, watch for bats, and look for eyeshine from the nocturnal animals around you. You will also learn about different adaptations animals have developed to thrive in the dark.

The program will include a brief instruction on night-hike safety as well as what kind of animals you can expect to find. You will then hit the trails to look and listen for creatures.

Be prepared to walk over uneven terrain in the dark as flashlights will be turned off for a portion of the hike to let our night vision develop.

Night Hike happens rain or shine, so be sure to dress for the weather.

The fee is $8 for adults, $6 for Nature Center members and children ages 9–15. (This program is not suited for children under the age of 9.)

Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown, N.Y., and Warren, Pa. You can visit the nearly 600-acre nature preserve, check in on the live birds of prey, enjoy the native tree arboretum, and hike over five miles of trails dawn until dusk daily for free.

The three-story Nature Center building houses interactive displays, a collection of live animals including the Hellbender exhibit, and the Blue Heron Gift Shop. Visitors are welcome Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and Sundays, 1 – 4:30 p.m. Nature Center members and SNAP/EBT cardholders have free building admission daily. Building admission is also free every Sunday for non-Nature Center members.
