(WNY News Now) – Jamestown – A 54-year-old Jamestown resident faces criminal contempt charges after allegedly violating a stay-away order during a domestic dispute.

On September 17, 2024, at approximately 6:39 PM, Town of Ellicott police apprehended Jason S. Smith, 54, for criminal contempt in the first degree. The arrest occurred at a residence in Celoron, where Smith was reportedly found on the property of an individual who is the subject of a stay-away order of protection against him.

Responding officers observed Smith at the location, leading to his immediate detention. Smith was subsequently transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for a centralized arraignment. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Ellicott court at a later date to respond to the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
