(WNY News Now) – A routine patrol led to a significant drug arrest at the Allegany rest area on Interstate 86, with Cattaraugus County deputies uncovering fentanyl during a late-night investigation.
In the early morning hours of September 28, 2024, Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to suspicious activity at the Allegany rest area on Interstate 86, leading to the arrest of a local woman on drug-related charges.
Deputies approached a white Chevrolet Trailblazer parked at the rest area, where they observed Samantha R. Reed, 33, of Olean, NY, seated in the passenger seat. Reed was seen holding a piece of aluminum foil to her mouth while using a lighter to heat the substance beneath it. The vehicle was being operated by Gregory Pellet, also of Olean.
After detaining both individuals, deputies conducted a search of the vehicle. Reed’s bag was found to contain packaged fentanyl along with multiple articles of drug paraphernalia. As a result, she was placed under arrest at the scene. Pellet’s role in the incident was not detailed in the sheriff’s report.
Reed was later processed and released with an appearance ticket. She is scheduled to appear in Allegany Town Court to answer charges related to drug possession and drug paraphernalia. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
