(WNY News Now) – A Greece resident faces 15 months in prison for his role in a scheme to buy and sell stolen merchandise.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Tony Orlando Camacho, also known as Anthony Camacho, 48, of Greece, NY, has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for transporting goods in interstate commerce that he knew were stolen. Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford delivered the sentence following Camacho’s conviction.

According to U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross, the investigation revealed that between January 2021 and July 25, 2022, Camacho purchased merchandise from individuals engaged in shoplifting, often referred to as “boosters.” These individuals would steal items from local retailers in the Rochester area and then sell them to Camacho at significantly reduced prices. In turn, Camacho would re-sell these stolen items on eBay under the account name “Ton.Camac,” advertising them as “New” or “New-In-Box.”

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nicholas M. Testani and Meghan K. McGuire reported that Camacho’s sales amounted to between $249,246.33 and $469,246.42 worth of stolen goods, with prices set below retail yet still profitable for him. This illegal operation not only harmed local businesses but also contributed to the larger issue of retail theft in the community.

The case against Camacho was spearheaded by Homeland Security Investigations, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Scarpino, alongside the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Todd Baxter.
