(WNY News Now) – A Silver Creek resident faces charges after allegedly threatening another individual over the phone, resulting in an aggravated harassment charge.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a harassment complaint on Lake Avenue in the Village of Silver Creek on the evening of September 23, 2024. Following their investigation, authorities determined that Hannah Smith, a 26-year-old resident of Silver Creek, had communicated a threat of physical harm to another individual over the telephone.

The incident led to Smith being charged with Aggravated Harassment in the 2nd Degree, a violation of New York Penal Law 240.30. This charge involves threats made through verbal communication or electronic means with the intent to harass, annoy, or alarm another person.

Smith was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Hanover Town Court on a future date to answer to the charge. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
