(WNY News Now) – Syracuse, NY – A community grapples with grief and unanswered questions following the tragic shooting of 16-year-old Dostdar Ali Khel on October 7, 2024.
At approximately 11:33 a.m., Syracuse Police Officers responded to a report of a shooting at 309 Herbert Street. Upon arrival, they found Dostdar Ali Khel suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate response from emergency personnel, Khel was pronounced dead at the scene by the Syracuse Fire Department.
In the aftermath, the Syracuse Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) launched a thorough investigation. Detectives interviewed witnesses and conducted a neighborhood and citywide canvass, gathering information and evidence. Search warrants were executed, and the evidence collected is being meticulously analyzed to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As a result of the investigation, a 13-year-old male suspect was identified. He was located in the vicinity of 709 First North Street on the same day and subsequently transported to the Public Safety Building’s Youth Division. He is currently being held at the Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center pending arraignment.
The charges against the juvenile suspect include:
- Manslaughter in the Second Degree (Penal Law 125.15)
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Penal Law 265.03)
