(WNY News Now) – A 70-year-old Dunkirk resident was assaulted in broad daylight on October 2nd, prompting an ongoing police investigation and a call for witnesses.

Dunkirk, N.Y. – The Dunkirk Police Department is investigating an assault that took place near E. Doughty Street and Franklin Avenue on October 2nd, 2024, at approximately 12:30 PM. The victim, a man in his 70s, was found injured at the scene and immediately attended to by Dunkirk Police, Dunkirk Firefighters, and Alstar Ambulance personnel.

Though the individual sustained injuries, they were not deemed life-threatening. The victim was first transported to Brooks Hospital before being transferred to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) for further care.

Authorities are now calling on the community for assistance. Dunkirk Police urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward. Tips can be directed to the police desk at 716-366-2266, or to the confidential tip line at 716-363-0313.
