(WNY News Now) – WNY News Now recently sat down with Kate Nutting, Case Manager and Administrative Assistant to Bruce Baehr, Executive Director of UCAN City Mission, to shine a light on the services they provide to some of the community’s most vulnerable members.
Jamestown, N.Y. – UCAN (United Christian Advocacy Network) City Mission is a not-for-profit ministry that seeks to serve “The Least, The Last, and The Lost”, offering a plethora of services to help assist disadvantaged individuals get back on their feet.
UCAN currently has a men’s shelter available for men age 18 and up. There are 29 beds in the facility, located at 7 W. 1st Street in Jamestown, and individuals are permitted a 30 day emergency stay. While at the facility, individuals are provided a bed, a shower, laundry services, recreational activities, and two hot meals a day during breakfast and dinner, respectively.
One of the biggest ways that UCAN helps is providing guidance to men who need help procuring important documentation, such as Social Security numbers, birth certificates, and photo IDs. If an individual can’t afford to pay for such documents, UCAN helps to subsidize the cost, as their ultimate goal is helping these men to be able to live a sustainable life independently.
UCAN operates 24 hours a day, with three eight-hour shifts for staff from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., 4 p.m. to midnight, and midnight to 8 a.m. To learn more, you can contact UCAN City Mission by calling (716) 488-7480 or visit ucancitymission.org.
