(WNY News Now) – LOCKPORT, NY — Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced today that Dennis D. Parson, 20, of Buffalo, has been sentenced to 22 years in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Parson previously pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree for the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Jaylan McWilson on January 21, 2023, outside McWilson’s home in Niagara Falls.

Seaman stated: “The McWilson family has irretrievably lost their son Jaylan, and a 20 year old young man will spend the next 20 years of his life in prison, and there is no reason for either. There was no good reason for the defendant to be carrying an illegal handgun, and there was no good reason for him to fire it. Part of the depth the tragedy in this case is that it was so avoidable.”

The case was investigated by the Niagara Falls Police Department and prosecuted by Seaman himself and First Assistant District Attorney Doreen Hoffmann.
