(WNY News Now) – A 51-year-old man from Freedom, NY, was arrested on a bench warrant issued by Cattaraugus County Court.
Machias, N.Y. – On October 15, 2024, Cattaraugus County Sheriff Eric A. Butler reported the arrest of David L. Smith, 51, of Freedom, New York. Smith was apprehended at 9761 Main Street in Machias, NY, following the issuance of a bench warrant from Cattaraugus County Court.
The warrant was related to Smith’s failure to appear in court, prompting authorities to take action. Smith was taken into custody and transported to the Cattaraugus County Jail, where he is being held without bail, pending further legal proceedings.
Smith is charged under New York Penal Law section 530.70(3), relating to court-ordered bail requirements. His case will continue under the jurisdiction of Cattaraugus County Judge Ploetz in Little Valley. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
