(WNY News Now) – Rochester, NY — A Maryland man is heading to prison after sending a series of violent threats to public officials in Rochester. Adam Schadt, 45, of Hampstead, MD, was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison after being convicted of making a threat by interstate commerce, according to U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross.
The case, handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. McGrath, was the result of an investigation that began in August 2022. Schadt had emailed threats to multiple officials, including the Chief of the Rochester Police Department and the Sheriff of Monroe County, stating he would shoot both of them. His threats soon expanded to other public figures, such as the Mayor of Rochester and the Monroe County Executive, along with their families.
U.S. District Court Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr. handed down the sentence, marking the end of an investigation spearheaded by the FBI under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia.
