(WNY News Now) – A 26-year-old Panama man faces DWI charges after a high-speed crash on Newland Ave. in Jamestown early Sunday morning.
Jamestown, N.Y. – In the early hours of October 13, 2024, officers from Jamestown’s Third Platoon were on foot patrol along Newland Ave. when they witnessed a truck jump the curb and drive onto the steps of a local business. The vehicle, moving at a high rate of speed, proceeded to crash head-on into another vehicle that was stopped at the intersection of Newland Ave. and Myrtle St.
The driver of the truck, identified as 26-year-old Tanner W. Newman from Panama, NY, was immediately detained at the scene. After failing multiple field sobriety tests, Newman was taken into custody and transported to the City Jail. He faces charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated Per Se, and several traffic violations.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the collision. The driver of the other vehicle was unharmed. Newman was later released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
