(WNY News Now) – FREDONIA – The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center continues its Cinema Series with the WWII biopic Lee, set to screen on Saturday, October 26, and Tuesday, October 29, at 7:30 p.m. The film, starring Kate Winslet, offers a gripping portrayal of legendary American war correspondent and photographer, Lee Miller.

Lee chronicles a pivotal decade in Miller’s life, highlighting her contributions to some of the most powerful wartime images of the 20th century. Known for her iconic photograph taken in Hitler’s private bathtub, Miller used her camera to document the ferocity and fragility of human life during war, capturing the untold stories of women and the voiceless victims of conflict. Winslet’s portrayal brings to life Miller’s relentless pursuit of truth, as well as the personal toll it took on her.

Directed by Ellen Kuras, the film explores Miller’s complex inner world and a long-buried childhood trauma that shaped her career and personal life. Critics have praised Lee for its vivid storytelling and stellar performances, with The Observer calling it “a vivid and unforgettable tribute to one of the bold women who challenged male dominance.”
Tickets for Lee are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members), and $5 (students). The Opera House, located in Village Hall, downtown Fredonia, is equipped with assistive listening devices upon request.
