(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man has been sentenced to 170 months in federal prison for his role in selling drugs that contributed to an overdose death. Darryl Sweat, 32, was convicted of distributing cocaine, fentanyl, and para-fluorofentanyl following a fatal overdose in 2022.

On April 18, 2022, Sweat sold cocaine to a regular customer, identified as V.O. Two days later, law enforcement and emergency personnel responded to V.O.’s residence, where they discovered the individual deceased. An autopsy revealed the cause of death as acute mixed drug intoxication, including cocaine, fentanyl, para-fluorofentanyl, and tramadol.

The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Buffalo Police Department, uncovered additional evidence of drug trafficking. Following the overdose, two controlled purchases of cocaine were made from Sweat in May 2022, further cementing his involvement in the distribution of lethal substances.
