(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 33-year-old man in the Masten Park neighborhood last year.

Martinko Jamel Caver, 45, admitted to the charge—a Class “A-I” felony—during a hearing before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio on Monday. The plea fully satisfies the indictment against him.
The incident occurred on September 5, 2022, at approximately 2:15 a.m. Authorities say Caver used an illegal firearm to shoot George McGee, III on the 300 block of Glenwood Avenue. McGee was transported by ambulance to ECMC, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Caver now faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 2 p.m. He remains in custody without bail.
Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane praised the investigative efforts of Buffalo Police Department Detective Thomas Nunan and Detective Sgt. Keith Fitzner, who played critical roles in solving the case.
The prosecution was led by Chief Gary W. Hackbush of the Homicide Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Ryan M. Flaherty of the Major Crimes Bureau.
