(WNY News Now) – ASHFORD, NY — A traffic accident investigation on Route 219 in Ashford led to the arrest of a Lockport man, uncovering a stolen vehicle and drug paraphernalia.

Deputies responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident at approximately 9:40 a.m. on December 3, 2024. The vehicle, a 2021 Dodge Ram 1500, was determined to have been reported stolen in Lockport, NY.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Keonta J. Mayfield of 106 Saxton Street, Lockport, was arrested at the scene. A search of the truck revealed multiple scales with white powder residue and sandwich bags containing similar residue, which were indicative of drug-related activities.

Mayfield was charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree (PL 165.50)
  • Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree (PL 220.50)
  • Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree (VTL 511-2A2)

Following his arrest, Mayfield was remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ashford Court at a later date before Judge Hebdon. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
