(WNY News Now) – A swift investigation by Dunkirk police, local schools, and the FBI led to charges against a teen accused of threatening mass harm via Snapchat.
DUNKIRK, NY — The Dunkirk Police Department responded swiftly on Sunday, December 8, to an online threat targeting Dunkirk High School posted on Snapchat. Recognizing the urgency, officers collaborated with the Dunkirk School District administration, the School Resource Officer, and the Dunkirk Police Detective Bureau to investigate the matter.
Authorities worked closely with the FBI’s local office, identifying and charging a 15-year-old City of Dunkirk resident under New York Penal Law Section 240.78, Making a Threat of Mass Harm. The juvenile is scheduled to appear in family court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
