(WNY News Now) – Travel restrictions are now in place as Dunkirk officials prioritize public safety during hazardous winter weather.
The City of Dunkirk has declared an immediate travel ban effective Thursday, December 12, at 11:30 AM, as worsening road conditions and near-zero visibility create dangerous driving conditions. The Dunkirk Police Department, in coordination with the Mayor’s Office, Department of Public Works, and Fire Department, announced the measure to ensure public safety.
The travel ban applies to all non-essential travel. Essential workers, including those in healthcare, utilities, and emergency services, are exempt to maintain critical operations. Authorities have urged residents to comply with the ban to allow for efficient snow plowing and ensure that emergency vehicles can navigate the streets without obstruction.
Residents are reminded to adhere to alternate parking regulations to assist snow removal teams. All vehicles must be moved to the alternate side by 5 PM to improve accessibility for responders. Violators may face fines or towing.
Stay indoors, stay informed, and stay safe.
