(WNY News Now) – A motor vehicle accident on Route 60 in Sinclairville on December 21st causes significant damage and gasoline spill, prompting road closures and emergency response.

On December 21, 2024, at approximately 10:15 AM, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 60 near Bloomer Street in Sinclairville, New York. The crash involved two vehicles: a Honda CRV driven by 22-year-old Aurora Wilson of Sinclairville and a tractor trailer operated by 49-year-old Michael Phillips of Marion.

According to deputies, Wilson was traveling southbound on Route 60 when she attempted to turn left onto Bloomer Street in the Village of Sinclairville. Unfortunately, she failed to yield to oncoming traffic, pulling in front of Phillips’ tractor trailer. The resulting collision caused extensive damage to both vehicles.

The tractor trailer, which was hauling gasoline, suffered enough damage to leak a significant amount of fuel. This prompted a swift response from emergency services, including Chautauqua County HAZMAT, multiple local fire companies, Chautauqua County Fire Police, the Department of Environmental Conservation, and Chautauqua County EMS. These teams worked quickly to contain the gasoline spill and ensure the area’s safety.

Wilson was transported to UPMC Chautauqua for treatment of minor injuries. Phillips, the truck driver, was unharmed in the crash.

As a result of the accident, Route 60 was closed between Kimballstand and Sylvester Road in Sinclairville. Authorities have stated that the road will remain closed for much of the day while efforts to remove the damaged vehicles continue. Wilson was later issued traffic citations for the accident.
