(WNY News Now) – A domestic incident in Ashford took a dangerous turn when a passenger allegedly grabbed the steering wheel, sending the vehicle into a creek.
ASHFORD, NY — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office has reported the arrest of Quenton J. Benoit, 31, following a domestic incident that resulted in a motor vehicle crash on Dutch Hill Road.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on December 22, 2024, at approximately 11:12 p.m. Benoit, who was a passenger in the vehicle, reportedly grabbed the steering wheel during a dispute with the driver, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and land in a creek.
Benoit sustained injuries and was treated at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital. Following his release, he was apprehended by the Town of Hamburg Police Department and transferred to the custody of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.
After being processed at the Delevan Substation, Benoit appeared for arraignment at the Town of Yorkshire Court. He was charged with Reckless Endangerment (NYS PL 120.25) and Criminal Mischief (NYS PL 145.10). Benoit was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ashford Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
