(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Chautauqua County, effective until 7:00 AM EST on January 9, 2025. Lake effect snow is forecasted to bring significant accumulations, particularly across higher terrain and far western areas of the county.

Key Details:

  • Snowfall Amounts: Total accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are expected in the most persistent snow bands.
  • Timing: Hazardous conditions will peak during the Tuesday evening commute, as well as Wednesday morning and evening commutes.
  • Impacted Areas: Western and higher-elevation areas of Chautauqua County will see the heaviest snowfall, while northern regions and lakeshore areas may receive less.
  • Travel Warnings: Visibility and road conditions may change rapidly, creating difficult and dangerous driving conditions.

NWS Guidance for Travelers:
Residents and commuters are urged to take precautions if traveling within the advisory area. Narrow bands of lake effect snow can lead to sudden changes in visibility and road conditions. Plan for delays, and consider postponing non-essential travel during peak snowfall periods.

Snow Report Submission: The NWS encourages residents to submit local snow reports through its website or social media platforms to help track the storm’s impact.
