Buffalo, N.Y. – Following a collaborative investigation between the Buffalo Police Department and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, 61-year old Richard J. Fox has been arrested for his suspected role in the 2021 murder of Marquita Mull.

Mull was last observed on June 25th, 2021, and was subsequently reported missing on July 18th, 2021. Mull’s body was found on September 27th, 2021, near another set of human remains that had been discovered the day before. The body was identified as Marquita Mull’s in October of 2021, at which point the Buffalo PD’s Homicide, SVU, and Narcotics divisions entered into a joint investigation with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation into Mull’s disappearance and homicide involved flyers being posted by Buffalo PD SVU detectives, as well as numerous interviews being conducted in the Broadway area where Mull was last seen, in addition to foot patrols funded by New York State grants.

Yesterday, on January 7th, 2025, deputies from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office located Richard J. Fox in Niagara Falls. With the assistance of the Niagara Falls Police Department, Fox was arrested and brought back to the Buffalo Police Department. Fox was charged and arraigned on one count of Murder in the 2nd Degree. He was remanded into custody and will return on Monday, January 13th, 2025 for further proceedings.

In addition to being charged for the murder of Marquita Mull, Fox, a Level 3 sex offender, has been charged with 4 counts of failure to register as a sex offender.

Erie County DA Michael Keane stated that the investigation continues, and additional charges may be brought forth.

As are all persons accused of a crime, Fox is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
