(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. – Kevin Hughes, 64, of Jamestown, NY, was sentenced to time served (approximately 17 months) for his role in a narcotics conspiracy, U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced. U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. handed down the sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. Violanti stated that Hughes assisted co-defendant Jun Martinez in drug trafficking operations. Hughes received drug shipments at his residence, transported Martinez around Jamestown for drug-related activities, collected payments from customers, and vacuum-sealed and mailed drug proceeds to suppliers.
In September 2020, Hughes and Martinez were stopped by an Illinois State Police Trooper near Frankfort, Illinois, while traveling to acquire narcotics. A search of their vehicle uncovered approximately 9,589 grams of methamphetamine, 3,157 grams of fentanyl, 2,241 grams of cocaine, and marijuana products.
Martinez was previously convicted.
The case was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which targets high-level criminal organizations through a multi-agency approach. The Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force, led by Jamestown Police Chief Timothy Jackson, and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New York Field Division, under Special Agent-in-Charge Frank A. Tarentino III, conducted the investigation.
