(WNY News Now) – ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. – A Machias man was arrested for driving while intoxicated following a traffic stop early Saturday morning, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say Davaughan W. Wells, 23, was stopped on Route 242 in the Town of Ellicottville at approximately 2:58 a.m. on February 1, 2025. Following an investigation, deputies determined Wells was operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was taken into custody and transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, where he provided a chemical test sample registering a 0.13% blood alcohol content (BAC) on the Datamaster.
Wells was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated Per Se, and Speed in Zone. He was processed and released with an appearance ticket, along with multiple uniform traffic tickets. Wells is scheduled to appear in Ellicottville Town Court at a later date.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
