(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, warning of lake effect snow that could impact travel in Northern Erie and Genesee counties through early Friday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 a.m. EST on Friday, February 21, for Northern Erie and Genesee Counties, according to the NWS Buffalo.

Expected Conditions:

  • Snow Accumulation: An additional 3 to 5 inches in areas with the most persistent lake effect snowfall.
  • Timing: Snowfall will continue through Wednesday evening and into Thursday morning.
  • Travel Impacts: Motorists should anticipate slippery road conditions, particularly during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

The NWS warns that lake effect snow can create rapidly changing visibility and road conditions. Drivers should exercise caution and allow extra time for travel.
