(WNY News Now) – HINSDALE, NY – A Hinsdale man was arrested late Tuesday night after a traffic stop in the Town of Hinsdale led to the discovery of an active fugitive warrant for dangerous drugs.

At approximately 11:32 PM, Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a routine traffic stop on Route 16. The driver, identified as 58-year-old Daniel S. Ackerman of Hinsdale, was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended registration. Upon further investigation, deputies discovered that Ackerman had an active full extradition warrant issued by the U.S. Marshals Service for dangerous drug-related charges.

Ackerman was taken into custody and transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office for processing. In addition to being arrested on the fugitive warrant, Ackerman was issued a uniform traffic ticket for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration.

After his arrest, Ackerman was arraigned in the Town of Ellicottville Court due to his fugitive status. He was subsequently held at the Cattaraugus County Jail with no bail, pending extradition by the U.S. Marshals Service.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
