(WNY News Now) – A Jamestown man was arrested early this morning after allegedly holding a victim against their will and resisting police officers during his arrest.

On February 24, 2025, at approximately 3:39 a.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department responded to a domestic incident at a south side address. Upon arrival, police learned that 47-year-old Lawrence A. Gibbons Jr. had reportedly restrained the victim in a “bear hug,” preventing them from leaving the residence.

Prior to officers’ arrival, Gibbons barricaded himself inside a bedroom closet. When police made contact with him, he refused to exit, prompting officers to attempt to resolve the situation. After a prolonged standoff, officers were eventually able to physically extract Gibbons from the closet, during which he continued to resist arrest.

Gibbons was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the city jail. He is being held pending arraignment at Jamestown City Court on charges of Unlawful Imprisonment in the second degree and Resisting Arrest.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
