(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, NY – A 24-year-old Jamestown resident was taken into custody Monday evening after barricading himself inside a residence during a warrant check on the city’s south side.

According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers, along with Chautauqua County Probation, conducted the warrant check around 6:39 p.m. on March 17. Upon arrival, authorities confirmed that Robert G. Gilbert, who had multiple outstanding warrants and was an absconder from probation, was inside the residence.

Despite repeated commands to exit, Gilbert refused to comply. Officers forced entry into a room where he had barricaded himself and found him hiding inside. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Gilbert was transported to the Jamestown City Jail and charged with Resisting Arrest in addition to his outstanding warrants. He remains in custody pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
