(WNY News Now) – A 51-year-old registered sex offender was arrested after failing to update his address with the New York State Sex Offender Registry.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of Michael J. Keller, 51, for failing to comply with New York State Sex Offender Registry requirements.

According to Sheriff Eric A. Butler, Keller, a registered Level 2 sex offender, was the subject of an investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau. Authorities allege Keller was no longer residing at his registered address in Gowanda, in violation of the legal requirement to report address changes within 10 days.

Following the investigation, Keller was indicted and taken into custody at the McKean County Jail in Pennsylvania. He was later transferred to Cattaraugus County to face charges.

Keller is scheduled to appear in Cattaraugus County Court at a later date for further proceedings.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
