(WNY News Now) – Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Delevan man late Tuesday night on an outstanding bench warrant.

MACHIAS, NY – The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a Delevan resident on a bench warrant during a late-night encounter on April 8.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Richard A. Smith was taken into custody around 10:30 p.m. on Sunset Drive in the Town of Machias. Deputies identified Smith and confirmed an active bench warrant issued by the Cattaraugus County Court.

Smith was transported to the Cattaraugus County Jail, where he was held pending further court proceedings. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  1. This wasn’t just a basic ol bench warrant… I live a few houses down. It was a drug raid and seizure for which our community if FINALLY safer with him and his partner behind bars!!
