(WNY News Now) – A 45-year-old Jamestown resident is facing multiple charges following a street check incident involving alcohol consumption and resistance to arrest.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — On Saturday, April 12, 2025, at approximately 7:33 a.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s 1st Platoon conducted a street check in the area of Prendergast Avenue and East 5th Street, where they encountered a man consuming alcohol on a public sidewalk.

The subject, identified as 45-year-old Guerhard J. DeGraff of Jamestown, allegedly refused to comply when approached by officers. According to police, DeGraff continued drinking despite being ordered to stop and ignored requests to discard the beverage. When informed he was under arrest, DeGraff reportedly pulled away and resisted officers’ attempts to detain him.

Police say a brief struggle ensued, during which DeGraff allegedly attempted to fight back. He was eventually restrained, but officers report he continued kicking and resisting while in custody.

DeGraff was transported to the Jamestown City Jail and is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. He is charged with Public Consumption of Alcohol, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Harassment in the 2nd Degree. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
