(WNY News Now) – A 21-year-old Cherry Creek resident faces several charges following a property damage accident on Route 83 in Ellington.

ELLINGTON, N.Y. — On Sunday, April 20, 2025, at approximately 7:56 p.m., the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 83 in the Town of Ellington.

Deputies identified the driver as Richard E. Rasmussen, 21, of Cherry Creek. Following an investigation at the scene, Rasmussen was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), Driving with a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.08% or greater, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree.

Additional charges include Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, Improper Passing, and Following Too Closely.

Rasmussen is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ellington Court at a later date to answer the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
