DUNKIRK, NY – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office has charged 45-year-old Meaghan N. Cappa of Forestville with Grand Larceny in the Second Degree following an investigation into the theft of more than $50,000.

According to authorities, the investigation began in September 2024 after the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division received a referral from another county agency. Detectives allege that between April 2023 and August 2024, Cappa unlawfully obtained a substantial sum of money from a single individual.

As a result of the investigation, Cappa was charged out of the Town of Dunkirk Court. She voluntarily surrendered herself at the Chautauqua County Jail, where she was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Program. Following her arraignment, she was released.

Grand Larceny in the Second Degree is a Class C felony under New York State law, typically applied in cases involving thefts exceeding $50,000 in value.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
