(WNY News Now) – A missing elderly adult was located unharmed in a wooded area in Pomfret thanks to the swift response of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s K9 Unit.

TOWN OF POMFRET – On Wednesday, May 1, 2025, at approximately 1:47 p.m., the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request for a well-being check on Osborne Road in the Town of Pomfret after reports that a vulnerable elderly adult had gone missing.

Deputies learned that the individual had wandered into a nearby wooded area and could not be located. In response, the Sheriff’s K9 Unit was deployed to assist with the search.

K9 Drake, a trained search and rescue dog, was released into the area on a free air sniff track. The K9 successfully located the missing individual deep within the wooded terrain.

Deputies escorted the person safely out of the woods. The individual was not injured and did not require medical attention.
