(WNY News Now) – A 24-year-old Jamestown man was charged with criminal mischief after damaging jail property during the intake process at the Chautauqua County Jail.
MAYVILLE, N.Y. – A Jamestown man is facing an additional charge following an incident at the Chautauqua County Jail on May 10, 2025.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Justice W. McBride, 24, was being booked into the facility at approximately 9:29 a.m. on unrelated charges stemming from the City of Jamestown Court. While being held in a detention cell during the intake process, McBride allegedly smashed a phone handset against the block wall.
Authorities reported that the handset was shattered and rendered unusable due to the impact. As a result of the damage, McBride was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, a class A misdemeanor under New York Penal Law.
McBride was held and later arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Program in the Town of Chautauqua Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
