(WNY News Now) – The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office is seeking public assistance as it investigates the death of Christopher Herron Sr., who was reported missing in April and found deceased in Olean last week.

OLEAN, NY — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau is actively investigating the death of 39-year-old Christopher Herron Sr., whose body was discovered in a marshy area in the City of Olean on May 17, 2025.

According to authorities, Herron was located in a swampy section near the end of Center Street and 4th Avenue, between Center Street and Inwood Drive. The last known contact with him occurred on April 10, 2025. He was officially reported missing to the Sheriff’s Office one week later, on April 17.

Detectives are now working to piece together the events leading up to Herron’s disappearance and death. The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who may have seen or heard from Herron around the time of his disappearance to come forward.
