(WNY News Now) – A Buffalo man will serve over three years in federal prison for making fraudulent purchases through an illicit online marketplace and possessing cocaine with intent to distribute.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Corey Robert Dodge, also known as “Cakesbaylor,” 43, of Buffalo, has been sentenced to 41 months in federal prison following his conviction for fraud and drug-related charges, U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced Monday.

Dodge was convicted of possessing 15 or more unauthorized access devices with intent to defraud and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. also ordered Dodge to forfeit $27,000 in proceeds linked to his criminal activity.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles M. Kruly, Dodge’s actions were tied to the Genesis Market, a global illicit online marketplace under FBI investigation since 2018. Genesis Market trafficked in stolen digital credentials—including usernames, passwords, and device identifiers—gathered from malware-infected devices worldwide. Transactions on the site were typically made using cryptocurrencies like bitcoin.

Between March 2020 and May 2021, Dodge purchased 14 packages containing stolen login credentials for accounts on platforms including PayPal, Tracfone, eBay, Amazon, FedEx, Etsy, Walmart, Chase, Venmo, and eTrade.

On April 3, 2023, the FBI executed a search warrant at Dodge’s residence in connection with the Genesis Market investigation. During the search, agents also discovered and seized multiple controlled substances, including cocaine, fentanyl, MDMA, and ketamine, along with drug paraphernalia.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia, and the Buffalo Police Department, under the direction of Commissioner Alphonso Wright.
