(WNY News Now) – CATTARAUGUS COUNTY, NY — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a Tornado Warning effective from 5:36 PM to 6:00 PM EDT on June 9, 2025, for northeastern Cattaraugus County in western New York.

At 5:36 PM, meteorologists reported a severe thunderstorm with radar-indicated rotation near Ashford, approximately 8 miles northeast of Salamanca, moving northeast at 15 mph. This storm has the potential to produce a tornado.

Potential Hazards:

  • Tornado development
  • Flying debris hazardous to those without shelter
  • Possible destruction of mobile homes
  • Roof, window, vehicle, and tree damage expected

Areas at Risk Include:

Ashford, Franklinville, Great Valley, Ischua, Lyndon, Humphrey, Ellicottville, and Lime Lake-Machias.

Urgent Safety Instructions:

Residents in the affected area are urged to take shelter immediately. Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If outside, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, seek substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
