(WNY News Now) – Jamestown Police arrested David A. Blake and Steven J. Bates on June 22 after responding to a suspicious vehicle report on the city’s south side, resulting in charges for possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.

On the evening of June 22, 2025, at approximately 7:29 p.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department responded to a report of suspicious activity involving a vehicle parked in a driveway on the south side of Jamestown. The call indicated possible illegal drug use inside the vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with two Jamestown residents, David A. Blake and Steven J. Bates. While engaging with the individuals, officers observed multiple items commonly associated with drug paraphernalia within the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a quantity of methamphetamine, fentanyl, cutting agents, and a digital scale.

Both Blake and Bates were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jamestown City Jail. Further investigation revealed that Blake was in possession of additional individually packaged fentanyl.

As a result, both men were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd and 5th degrees, as well as two counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd degree. Blake and Bates are currently being held at the Jamestown City Jail pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
