(WNY News Now) – On June 23, 2025, a structure fire at 137 N. Ninth St. in Olean resulted in one civilian death and left one firefighter treated for overexertion.
OLEAN, NY — The City of Olean Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 137 N. Ninth St. on June 23 at 5:31 p.m. Fire crews arrived within three minutes and found smoke visible from the second floor of the two-story residence.
Emergency responders immediately began a search for occupants while others deployed hose lines to contain the flames. The fire was brought under control by 6 p.m. Despite efforts, one civilian tragically lost their life in the incident. One firefighter was treated on site for overexertion linked to the challenging conditions.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Multiple agencies assisted with the response, including the Olean Police Department, New York State Troopers, Trans Am Ambulance, Allegany and Portville Fire Departments, the Town of Olean Fire Department, and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
Due to high temperatures and heat index concerns, additional personnel were deployed. Fire departments from Hinsdale and Weston Mills, along with Allegany EMS, were placed on standby to support city resources during the operation.
