(WNY News Now) – A 47-year-old Mayville resident is facing charges following an incident at the Chautauqua County Jail.
MAYVILLE, NY — On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, an investigation conducted by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, in coordination with Chautauqua County Jail staff, led to the arrest of Joseph A. Cohen, 47, of Mayville.
Cohen has been charged with Attempted Assault in the Second Degree in connection with an incident that occurred at the jail facility around 6:39 a.m. Authorities did not release additional details regarding the circumstances of the incident.
Following the investigation, Cohen was processed and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Chautauqua County Jail through the centralized arraignment process. He will answer the charge in the Town of Chautauqua Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
