(WNY News Now) – A Cattaraugus man is facing multiple charges after allegedly driving while intoxicated and fleeing the scene of a crash on South Street.
CATTARAUGUS, N.Y. — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office has reported the arrest of 37-year-old Charles R. Strickland of Cattaraugus following a property damage accident and erratic driving complaint in the Village of Cattaraugus.
The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. on July 4, 2025, on South Street. Deputies responded to a report of an unknown-type motor vehicle accident and a vehicle being operated recklessly. Upon arrival and further investigation, authorities determined Strickland had been driving while intoxicated.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content of 0.18% or higher, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and failure to maintain lane.
Strickland was processed and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in New Albion Town Court at a later date to answer the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
