(WNY News Now) – A routine traffic stop in Olean led to multiple drug and traffic-related charges against a 43-year-old local man.
OLEAN, N.Y. — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reports that Curtis L. Berkhouse, 43, of Olean, was arrested in the early morning hours of July 7, 2025, following a traffic stop on Washington Street.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the stop occurred at approximately 3:56 a.m. after deputies observed multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. During the stop, deputies noted drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle operated by Berkhouse.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered suspected crack cocaine, two digital scales, and a glass pipe containing residue. Berkhouse was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff’s Olean Substation for processing.
He was charged with the following offenses:
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree
- Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree (2 counts)
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree
- Unlicensed Operation
- Speed in Zone
- Failure to Keep Right (2 counts)
Berkhouse was released on an appearance ticket and multiple traffic citations. He is scheduled to appear in City of Olean Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
