Steven P. Howe faces multiple charges including criminal mischief and contempt of court following domestic disturbance.
(WNY News Now) – MACHIAS, NY — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Machias man following an investigation into a domestic disturbance on Route 16 on the evening of July 15, 2025.
According to Sheriff Eric A. Butler, deputies responded to the scene at approximately 7:33 p.m. where 50-year-old Steven P. Howe was taken into custody. Authorities allege that Howe damaged another individual’s property and violated a court-issued order of protection during the incident.
Following the investigation, Howe was charged with:
- Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree (a felony)
- Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree
- Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree
Howe was arraigned in Machias Town Court and subsequently remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail. He is scheduled to reappear in court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
