Victim reports suspect pointed weapon during bicycle theft attempt

(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – A man is in custody following an early morning incident on July 30, 2025, in which police responded to a report of a person with a weapon on the city’s north side.

At approximately 3:37 a.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s third platoon were dispatched to the scene after a victim reported that an unknown male attempted to steal his BMX bicycle at gunpoint. According to the victim, the suspect brandished what appeared to be a handgun during the attempted robbery.

Officers located a man nearby who matched the suspect’s description and identified him as Alexis Lopez Rosa. Upon further investigation, police discovered that Lopez Rosa was in possession of a BB gun. He was confirmed to be the individual involved in the incident and was taken into custody without further incident.

Lopez Rosa now faces the following charges:

  • Attempted Robbery in the First Degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree
  • Menacing in the Second Degree

He is currently being held at the Jamestown City Jail pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
