(WNY News Now) – Community Access Services Prepares Local Students for School and Supports Families With Vital Resources

Buffalo, N.Y. — Community Access Services (CAS) will host the annual backpack giveaway and back-to-school community fair on Friday, August 8 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. located at 3297 Bailey Avenue. CAS hosts the free backpack giveaway each year to ensure students have access to needed school supplies as they prepare for the upcoming school year.

The community event will feature kid-friendly activities, community resources, information tables, free food, music by DJ Jada, rapid HIV testing for adults and much more.

“We look forward to the backpack giveaway each year to ensure students have access to necessary supplies for a successful return to the classroom,” said Kim Brown, executive director for Community Access Services. “We are proud to support the community by connecting families to a wide range of programs and services.”

The giveaway is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies run out. The child must be present at the event to receive a backpack. Each backpack includes pens, pencils, paper, crayons, markers, a ruler, and scissors.

CAS, an affiliate of Evergreen Health, empowers communities of color in Buffalo by addressing healthcare disparities and social determinants of health. To expand accessible, quality healthcare to more people in the community, CAS and Evergreen Health are partnering to bring a new healthcare facility to the corners of Kensington and Bailey Avenues.
