A 27-year-old man was taken into custody in Olean following a bicycle stop that revealed an active arrest warrant out of Salamanca.
(WNY News Now) – OLEAN, N.Y. — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reports that on August 11, 2025, at approximately 6:26 a.m., deputies arrested Derik N. Nelson, 27, of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, during a traffic stop on Washington Street in Olean.
According to authorities, Nelson was stopped while riding his bicycle for a vehicle and traffic law violation. During the stop, deputies discovered that he had an active arrest warrant issued by the Town of Salamanca Court.
Nelson was transported to the Sheriff’s Office Olean Substation for processing before being taken to the Town of Little Valley Court for arraignment. He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Salamanca Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
