(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – A Jamestown woman was taken into custody Wednesday morning after officers observed her traveling with a young child unsecured inside a vehicle.
According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers identified 40-year-old Jennifer M. Pelc as a passenger in a cab around 7:38 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20. Police say Pelc was seated in the back of the vehicle with her 18-month-old child on her lap, without a safety seat or restraints.
Investigators reported that the department had previously received information indicating Pelc had been seen on multiple occasions transporting the child in a similar unsafe manner. In some cases, the child was allegedly placed between her legs in the footwell area of a small sedan.
Pelc was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. She was transported to the Jamestown City Jail without incident and is currently being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
